Alaska Airlines Lounge

A LIGHT, CONTEMPORARY ENVIRONMENT.

The Project Scope was the creation of an “Interim” passenger lounge at the North Satellite at SEATAC Airport. While the goal was on getting the greatest number of people in a relatively small space without feeling cramped, the primary design focus was to create a lighter, more contemporary environment. It was difficult to get people from the existing Concourse D lounge over to the North Satellite in a “seamless” manner, as a train from the main terminal would be needed. Alaska decided to make the investment to create this space to draw Alaska passengers to come out to the North Satellite to lessen travel stress and help support the retail concessions at the Satellite. The project was a great success and has been serving the purpose intended for some time now—waiting for the final lounge to appear. The space even incorporated natural materials like wood, stone and metal. There are lounge seating areas near the windows and a full-service bar and kitchen. Bright color accents and a small waterfall in the entry make the space welcoming and intimate. After this experimental design, Alaska decided to make the greeters’ desks “smaller and more approachable,” which we implemented on that project.
