A TRANSFORMATIVE SPACE FOR
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.

LEED Silver Certified

Cascade PBS, after four decades in their previous home, embarked on a journey to find a new space that not only reflected their identity but also served as a hub for community interaction. The Cascade PBS project was born from this vision, aiming to create a functional and inspiring environment for both employees and the public.

Drawing inspiration from the Pacific Northwest's serene palette of blues, greens, and natural materials, our team at JPC embarked on a mission to design a space that harmoniously blended with its surroundings. Outdoor areas were carefully crafted to allow people to immerse themselves in the beauty of the environment while engaging with the organization's mission. A core objective of the project was to achieve LEED certification, a testament to our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Through meticulous planning and execution, we not only met but exceeded this goal, ensuring that Cascade PBS's new home aligned with their values. As a non-profit, Cascade PBS relied on fundraising efforts to finance the project. JPC collaborated closely with the client to design and layout "donor pavers" on the patio, providing a unique opportunity for supporters to leave their mark on the space. Acoustic excellence was paramount in spaces such as edit rooms, podcast booths, and recording studios. Working in tandem with A3 Acoustics, we implemented innovative solutions, including walls up to 11-3/8" thick, to meet the client's stringent requirements. In a bold move, the client opted to remove two structural columns from the main event space, presenting both design and engineering challenges. Collaborating with structural engineers, we devised a solution that seamlessly integrated with the building's architecture while navigating through multiple permit revisions with the City of Seattle.

The Cascade PBS project is more than a physical space; it is a beacon of creativity, community, and sustainability, reflecting the values of Cascade PBS and the vibrant spirit of the Pacific Northwest.
