ROMP

FLEXIBLE & FUN PLAY SPACE.

ROMP was intended to be a drop-in “play space” for kids and their parents. The concept was very open and flexible with muted colors so that the play environment could be the “color punch” against the architecture. Addionally, there was an effort on the Design Team’s part to specify materials and products that were environmentally (and kid) friendly in order to create a space for people of all ages to enjoy.

While the back area was open and flexible, there were allowances made for older siblings and parents to have a couple of private rooms, that faced on to the play area, so that work and play didn’t merge.

The space was unique in that it was in a strip mall and the exiting hade to be carefully planned out, with a 1-hr fire corridor directly to the outside, to comply with code. While the zoning code did not prevent this type of use in Bellevue, the type of use brought some very specific parameters in play, due to the number of occupants.
