KNKX Radio Station

RADIO STATION FINDS NEW HOME FULL OF HISTORY.

Built in 1906, the C.N. Gardner Building has become the new home for KNKX’s Tacoma location. Located amidst the area’s Theater District, the historic building boasts detailed columns, exposed brick, and high ceilings throughout, which provided a compelling shell for us to work within. New design elements were introduced to complement the existing charm rather than detract from the history of the building.

This fast-paced project required efficient coordination to survive the variety of issues that arose due to the intended use of the radio station’s new space coupled with the age of the building. Challenges with security, acoustics, and mechanical were resolved and the space is functioning as planned. Intentional pops of color feel fresh and fun, while mobile lounge furniture allows for the occasional jazz performance to take place with a small audience.
