INDEED SEATTLE

Indeed’s new Seattle office is located on the top 11 floors of the new 2+U office tower in downtown Seattle, with sweeping views of Puget Sound and the city.  Even though Indeed leased a significant number of floors, they wanted to incorporate an element of collaboration and community throughout the 200,000 sf space.  Nine of the floors are broken down into three “Dunbar Communities” which are inspired by Robin Dunbar’s theory.

The Dunbar concept, as it relates to office space, was based on Dunbar’s Number, an ideology developed in the early 1990s by Robin Dunbar, a British anthropologist and evolutionary psychologist who focused on primates, sociability, and connection with peers. While Dunbar’s Number hypothesizes that humans have a capacity of 150 relationships when it comes to meaningful connections, workplaces can incorporate this principal when laying out office space and creating a space that promotes a sense of community.

Two of the top floors serve as amenity floors with the lobby, main café, a cooking kitchen, conference areas and a rooftop deck.  The other nine office floors are broken down into three different Dunbar communities with the center floors having greater amenity spaces such as pantries, meeting areas and game rooms.  Each community has a different theme focused on northwest color ranges of blues, greens and naturals.

A Northwest flavor is a cohesive element on all 11 floors. For example, using Seattle’s history of engineering and manufacturing as inspiration, linear slat designs have been utilized to evoke images of industrial artifacts—like aircraft or ship hull ribs—while adding warmth and texture to the space.   Indeed provided northwest job themes for each floor which are reflected in meeting room graphics and names such as “Whale Watch Videographer” or “Lumber Sawyer”. Pops of Indeed’s orange brand color are featured throughout the space as well, including custom wayfinding graphics. An icon feature wall was developed for the top amenity floor which features northwest icons that are formatted in Indeed’s graphic standards.

Across from the reception area, the feature stair showcases Indeed’s iconic mission, “We help people get jobs” as the backdrop when moving through the space. A simple, yet important message that reminds employees of their collective purpose.  Working together as a community, in an inspiring environment, they achieve that mission every day.
